A little while ago, my kids were talking about making comic books and different characters that they were going to make, when my son, Jacob, said he was going to make a character called “Copy Cat”. I’m sure this is nothing like what he was thinking of (I hope not, so I don’t have to pay him royalties!), but I immediately had an idea for a children’s book. Recently I had a fairly large operation that has kept me out of commission for the last 5 weeks, but I’m feeling better every day and have had the urge to start drawing again. Comics require a bit more planning and organization than I’m capable of right now, but something like a children’s book allows a bit more freedom to just draw.
Here’s some rough drawings:
The story is about a cat named Copy, who copies all of the other animals and never thinks for himself, until one day he starts copying some animals that aren’t that nice. The bully animals pick on other kids, with Copy following, but it just doesn’t feel right. Eventually Copy puts his foot down and stops his copying, and does what’s right.
This isn’t the first children’s book that I’ve started, but it’s the first one that I’m excited to do. Stay tuned for more updates as things progress.
Blair,
These look great. Really digging the design of Copy Cat. The story sounds solid, with just enough ‘lesson’ in it to make it a memorable book.
Glad to see you working on this, and even better to have you on the road to recovery!
Best wishes, man!
Javier
Hey Blair,
This looks really cute. I’m glad to see you’re up and drawing.
Dave T mentioned you were having a serious bit of operatin’ done on
you and I meant to send you a note before this. It looks like they managed not to hit the buzzer on your funny bone. I’m trying to develop a book and short of my own, but finding the time is tough. That and my natural laziness.
Hope you’re well on the mend and we’ll see you down in Liberty village at some point. Keep up the great drawrrrings.
All the best to you and yorn, James
Lovin’ this, great idea. Can’t wait.
Awesome blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on
everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many choices out there that I’m completely confused .. Any tips? Thanks!
